Daily Report : (PDF) McKinsey -

(PDF) Mckinsey - Turning Humanoid Supply Chain Constraints Into Billion-Dollar Wins

The robotics supply chain is the most underappreciated constraint on humanoid scale. But for companies that move now, it is the most significant opportunity in a generation.Humanoid Robotics May Be Entering Its Next Big Constraint: The Supply ChainThe humanoid robotics market is often framed as a race in AI, dexterity, and real-world autonomy. But McKinsey’s Turning Humanoid Supply Chain Constraints into Billion-Dollar Wins argues that the next decisive battleground may be far less glamorous: the hardware supply chain. The report says the central question is no longer whether humanoids can work in factories, warehouses, or industrial environments, but whether they can scale economically, reliably, and fast enough to support mass deployment. In that framing, the supply chain is not just a background condition. It is the core determinant of cost compression and commercial viability. What makes the issue especially important is how concentrated cost still is inside a few immature hardware domains. According to the bill-of-materials breakdown on page 3, actuators account for roughly 4...

The World's First Splittable Soft Top Surfboard - Newave

Newave is a French company founded by two engineers who also happen to be avid surfers. They’ve experienced firsthand the hassle of traveling with a bulky surfboard and paying extra fees for oversized luggage, so in 2023 they set out to solve this problem by designing modular boards. About a year ago, the company successfully launched its 9-in-1 modular surfboard on Kickstarter, selling over 500 units. Now the firm is back with a new product called WRocket. It's built on the same idea, but this time the concept is applied to soft-top surfboards. Soft-tops are a popular choice for beginners or intermediate surfers. They might not be as suitable for sharp turns or advanced maneuvers, but they are more forgiving during falls, more stable, more affordable, and overall, they work well for learning fundamentals. WRocket is described as the first splittable soft-top surfboard, as it breaks down into three separate sections. Once disassembled, it fits into a relatively compact bag measuring 85 x 55 x 25 cm (33.5 x 21.7 x 9.8 in), making it much easier to travel with or store during the o...

Memory Stock Valuations Spark Debate Over ‘Supercycle’ Potential

Memory makers are seeing record profits due to surging demand, but their stocks are trading at a fraction of the valuation multiples of other top artificial intelligence chip names.Investors are debating whether memory has entered a supercycle, with some arguing that AI is driving unprecedented demand and others citing the lumpy nature of memory earnings.Memory valuations are still low, with companies like Samsung and SK Hynix trading at less than 6 times forward estimates, compared to 19 times for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.Memory makers are riding surging demand to record profits, yet their stocks are still trading at a fraction of the valuation multiples of other top artificial intelligence chip names.Memory makers are riding surging demand to record profits, yet their stocks are still trading at a fraction of the valuation multiples of other top artificial intelligence chip names. This gap has sparked a growing debate among investors over whether memory has entered a so-called supercycle, finally breaking free from its boom-and-bust past.Net income is estimated to g...

Ultra-Wideband Key Fobs Close a Loophole That Car Thieves Exploit

New chips that lock onto signal travel time are tough to spoof.Car thieves are getting better and better at exploiting security gaps in hands-free unlocking and keyless start systems. According to recent statistics from the U.K., in fact, criminals hack cars’ keyless entry today more often than resorting to the old-fashioned, physical lock-bypass (a.k.a. slim jim) method. And now a new generation of key fob and car-security-chip systems are being developed to stop tech-savvy car thieves cold. STMicroelectronics, based in Plan-les-Ouates, Switzerland, is one of several suppliers developing upgraded security chips for cars, smart locks, and other products. Last month the company released its ST64UWB line, designed in part to patch an exploit that thieves had previously used. The weakness in previous-generation systems concerns car locks that verify a key’s identity only, not the distance to that key as well. Even when automakers add ultra-wideband (UWB)—a secure, short-range wireless communication technology using high-frequency pulses to measure distance—the automakers often trea...

Pedle’s Minimalist Computer Reimagines Digital Access for Older Adults

Pedle’s minimalist computer keeps older adults connected, without the tech headaches. Most technology designed for older adults starts with a regular tablet and strips features away. Dutch startup Pedle took the opposite approach. Instead of simplifying a complex device, the company built a minimalist computer from scratch for people who find phones, tablets and laptops unworkable, whether due to age, cognitive impairment or mental health challenges. The device handles video calling, messaging, news, radio, quizzes and photo sharing through a fixed interface that never changes. No system updates, no pop-ups. Family members and care staff manage everything remotely through a companion app, from adjusting the volume to adding items to a daily calendar. A closed contact system means strangers can't reach the user.Pedle is currently available only through care organizations in the Netherlands, where it's used in elderly care, disability services, mental health facilities and sheltered housing. The platform connects with existing care infrastructure (calendars, client systems, meal serv...

Clean Power Meets New Electricity Demand in 2025

Clean power sources fully covered the world’s growing electricity demand in 2025, according to a new analysis by energy think tank Ember. Low-carbon power generation increased by 887 terawatt-hours (TWh) between 2024 and 2025, while global electricity use rose by 849 TWh. China accounted for around 59 percent of that increase, with demand rising by 503 TWh, followed by the United States (+131 TWh, 15 percent) and India (+49 TWh, 6 percent). However, as the following chart shows, the surge in demand was entirely met by growth in clean energy, particularly by solar and wind. Solar power alone met 75 percent of the net increase in electricity demand, adding 636 TWh of electricity generation in 2025. Wind was the next biggest clean energy contributor, providing 205 TWh.For the first time since the Covid pandemic, fossil fuel energy generation did not rise, but fell by 38 TWh (-0.2 percent). This was driven largely by a drop in fossil generation in China (-56 TWh, -0.9 percent) and India (-52 TWh, -3.3 percent).China Saw Biggest Electricity Demand Surge in 2025Global electricity demand...

Artists Reimagine LEXUS LS Concept To Explore How Mobility Shapes Individual Lifestyles

During Milan Design Week from April 21 to 26, 2026, LEXUS invites visitors to experience a boundary-pushing shift in mobility, presenting the SPACE installation at the heart of the Tortona district. Centered on the LEXUS LS Concept — a six wheel, chauffeur-driven concept vehicle first unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 — the exhibition aims to prove that mobility is no longer merely a means of reaching a destination, but a transformative experience in itself. Presented alongside the immersive installation, the LEXUS LS Concept rear-seat space also serves as a shared motif for creative reinterpretation, showcased in the collaborative project ‘Discover Together’.DISCOVER TOGETHER: REIMAGINING THE IDEA OF PERSONAL SPACELEXUS has consistently challenged the conventions of traditional luxury, shifting the focus from the product itself to the quality of time spent within it. For Milan Design Week 2026, the brand has evolved its long-standing design competition into ‘Discover Together,’ a collaborative project that moves beyond competition toward a shared exploration of futur...

Zara’s Dystopia Turns Men’s Fragrance Into a Post-Natural Design Statement

Zara’s new Dystopia perfume collection offers more than a packaging refresh. It presents a clear example of how beauty brands are increasingly using industrial design, scientific visual language, and conceptual storytelling to reposition fragrance as a cultural object rather than simply a personal-care product. Designed by Lavernia & Cienfuegos, the range was developed to convey a futuristic, laboratory-inspired identity, translating the idea of synthetic perfumery into a tightly controlled visual system. What makes the project especially notable is the concept behind the collection itself. According to the design brief, each fragrance is built around a single synthetic note capable of evoking a natural element, framing the perfume not as a traditional botanical composition but as an exercise in contemporary alchemy. That approach reflects a broader shift in the fragrance industry, where synthetic ingredients are no longer hidden behind romantic narratives of nature, but are increasingly presented as a source of innovation, precision, and creative legitimacy in their own right...
